When one mentions Jewish Desserts, others would then be wondering, are there also Christian desserts? (Would two chocolate bars put together to form the shape of a cross count as a Christian dessert?) What about Muslim desserts? (The running consensus among sweet shops is that there is no such thing as a pork slushie so our Muslim friends have one less thing to be wary of food-wise) Do Buddhists eat sweets or are they worried that some poor soul was reincarnated as a stalk of wheat, harvested, and eventually incorporated into a baked puff pastry? Religious cracks aside, certain religions do have specifications on what is and is not allowed in their food. For the Jewish, one important aspect of their diet is food that is considered kosher.
Kosher food includes meat that is prepared according to the Jewish religious laws. The meat is obtained from the animal in a way that the animal does not suffer much while it is being butchered. Kosher food also pertains to food that is not in the official banned list of the Jewish monotheistic deity. Jewish Desserts are very delicious. Most of the recipes are family treasures handed down from mother to daughter, delighting many generations throughout many shared activities. Cookies and cakes are a part of Jewish desserts. These sugary treats include nuts and chocolate and other delicious things. Some are made with jams and sweet creams. There are the more traditional desserts that can be found in any bakery like brownies and sugar cookies. There are also pancakes, biscotti, shaped cookies, and the list just goes on.
Jewish Desserts are fun to make especially if one is truly inclined to make delicious food in one's own kitchen. If buying desserts from the cake store is just too inconvenient for you (and frankly some of the stuff that's in the bakery are just too generic) it would be best to make your own desserts in the comfort of your own home. Typically the best source for an awesome sugar treat would be the oldest female in your family, provided that they are still sane for a good part of the preparation and baking process. Make this dessert preparation thing a tradition on weekends and not only do you have oven-baked goodies, but you also have a family who works together to make delicious treats and takes the time to enjoy the product of their labor together. |
